Hosted in partnership by the Science Center of Iowa and Polk County Conservation, this free, family-friendly event invites community members of all ages to experience the incredible biodiversity of Central Iowa firsthand.

iNaturalist BioBlitz: Jester Park 
Saturday, June 20, 2026 | 9:00 am–12:00 pm 

Join the Science Center of Iowa and Polk County Conservation for a community BioBlitz at Jester Park, a 1,661-acre natural area along Saylorville Lake. This all-ages citizen science event invites participants to explore local habitats and document as many species as possible using the free iNaturalist app. Families, students, and nature enthusiasts can join guided hikes, learn species ID skills, and contribute real biodiversity data used by researchers and conservationists worldwide. 

Activities include orientation and app training, expert-led habitat walks, independent exploration, and a closing celebration highlighting discoveries from the day. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 9:00 a.m. and stay as long as they would like. 

All BioBlitz activities are free to attend.
